Artemis Alcalay

Artemis Alcalay was born in Athens, Greece in 1957. She studied painting, stage and costume design in the School of Fine Arts of Athens (1976-1981) (I.Moralis, D. Mytaras, V.Vasileiadis, M. Lambraki –Plaka, P. Mylonas). She continued her studies in Venice and New York, where she obtained a Master’s degree in Studio Art from New York University (1984-85) (Angiolla Churchill, Gerry Pryor, Livio Seguso, Steve Madoff, Idelle Weber). She was taught weaving in the Y.M.C.A. of Kifissia (M.Leonidou) (1998-2002).

She exhibits her work in Greece and abroad. She collaborates with contemporary dance groups as a set & costume designer and also works as a designer of hand tufted carpets. Since 2008 she participates with animation works in international film festivals (Animasyros 2008, 10th International Film Festival of Patras 2008, Thermaikos Film Festival 2008, Animfest 2009, London Greek Film Festival 2009). Her artworks belong to the collections of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation(PFF), the Jewish Museum of Greece, the Juedisches Museum of Frankfurt, the Central Museum of Textiles, Lodz and the American College of Greece.
